Senate Homeland Security Committee Holds Hearing on the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Promise of Ivermectin

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee heard from medical professionals who advocate for alternative coronavirus treatments and mitigation measures than those at the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and World Health Organization. Several of the doctors, based on growing evidence, advocated for the use of the drugs hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin to treat patients. Ranking Member Gary Peters (D-MI) delivered his opening statement, in a shameless attack, criticizing the hearing as well as the good doctors that are only working daily to save lives during this horrific pandemic. Other than Peters showing up to denounce this important hearing, not one Democrat bothered to attend. For that matter, there were few Republicans. TrialSite has chronicled Ivermectin-based studies for nearly eight months now, and we have shared with the world the accumulating evidence that national research agencies should at least sponsor a study—there is sufficient evidence to do so now. But the hostility exhibited toward the physicians such as Dr. Jean-Jacques Rajter and Dr. Pierre Kory, medical professionals that TrialSite knows well, was not only unfortunate, but  frankly, disgusting. How can dedicated physicians who are simply committed to treating patients earlier to save more lives be so under fire? Given the growing evidence for the use of ivermectin (search TrialSite for the many studies), why are prominent organizations backing the ANTICOV study involving Hydroxychloroquine to treat early onset COVID-19 outpatient in sub-Saharan Africa? Why is there such resistance to an FDA approved drug used off label if there is so much accumulating positive data? Could it be that at least in the rich developed economies, certain interests seek absolutely no competition for a top-down regimen involving vaccines and expensive monoclonal antibodies?

After Chair Ron Johnson’s opening statement, Ranking Member Gary Peters attacked the dedicated physicians as political, in an appalling assault on not only the doctors but also the accumulating scientific information backing ivermectin. Peters accused the doctors testifying as simply politicizing the pandemic but in fact that is exactly what Peters represents. Peters receives money from industry and undoubtedly projected considerable bias into this important hearing in an attempt to disrupt and discredit.

This hearing included the following individuals providing testimony:

·         Dr. Ramin Oskoui, Sibley Memorial Hospital Cardiologist

·         Dr. Jean-Jacques Rajter, Broward Health Medical Center, Pulmonologist (showcased multiple times in TrialSite)

·         Dr. Pierre Kory, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center Pulmonologist

·         Dr. Armand Balboni, Appili Therapeutics, CEO (focused on favipiravir)

·         Dr. Jane Orient, Association of American Physicians & Surgeons Executive Director

·         Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharya, Stanford University School of Medicine, Professor

These physicians have been on the front lines working to save patients lives during this horrific pandemic. They must be supported from disgusting attacks originating from political hacks such as Ranking Member Peters and any other groups that stand for censorship or what could be called Medical McCarthyism. TrialSite is apolitical and does not typically even bring up this ugly topic but, considering what the eyes and ears witnessed yesterday, something had to be said.
